Performance Lab Omega-3 falls short.
A vegan omega-3 from Performance Lab: 3 softgels give 1,800mg algal oil (life's OMEGA 60) with 990mg total omega-3, including 540mg DHA and 270mg EPA, every amount on the label. The DHA dose sits below the 900mg-1.2g a day used in the positive memory trials, so it is a general-health omega-3 with a brain-health angle rather than a nootropic. Canadian orders ship from the brand's UK depot (per performancelab.com's shipping page, checked 2026-10-05), and the buyer pays any customs charges.
What it does
Performance Lab Omega-3 is an algae-based omega-3 supplement sold through performancelab.com. The vendor positions it 'to support optimal health and performance of the brain, eyes, heart and (much) more'. One serving is 3 NutriGels, softgels the vendor describes as vegan and free of gelatin and carrageenan (other ingredients listed: gellan gum, pectin, starch and glycerin), holding 1,800mg algal oil from life's OMEGA 60 with 990mg total omega-3 fatty acids, of which 540mg is DHA and 270mg is EPA; a bottle holds 30 servings. The label suggests 3 softgels with your first meal of the day. The vendor states it is 'third-party tested for purity and potency' and Clean Label Project certified; the product page shows the certification logo but no certificate or batch number. Health Canada's Licensed Natural Health Products Database had no Performance Lab entries when we searched it on 2026-10-05, so we found no Natural Product Number (NPN) for it, and Canadian buyers import it for personal use rather than buying a licensed product.
How it works
DHA is the main structural omega-3 in brain cell membranes. In two 6-month trials it improved memory measures at 900mg a day in adults aged 55 and over with age-related cognitive decline (Yurko-Mauro 2010, sponsored by the algal-DHA maker Martek) and at 1.16g a day in healthy 18-45-year-olds with low DHA intake (Stonehouse 2013); this product supplies 540mg, below both. The wider evidence is mixed: a 2012 Cochrane review found no cognitive benefit from omega-3 supplements in cognitively healthy older adults. We found no trial of EPA alone for cognition; a 2024 dose-response meta-analysis of 24 trials of mixed EPA and DHA in adults aged 40 and over found an executive-function benefit trend above 500mg a day of total omega-3 (Suh 2024), which the 990mg here exceeds. The oil comes from algae rather than fish, so it suits vegans. Performance Lab Omega-3 itself has not been tested in a published trial.
What to expect
Performance Lab says Omega-3 starts working in around 30 minutes, that you may first notice improvements to hair, nails and skin, and that other benefits build over time; both positive DHA memory trials ran for 6 months, so do not expect a quick cognitive effect. Take 3 softgels with your first meal of the day. Our DHA ingredient page notes that in a 2021 meta-analysis of cardiovascular trials, omega-3 supplements were linked to a higher risk of atrial fibrillation, more so above 1g a day; one serving here gives 990mg of total omega-3, so ask your doctor first if you have a heart-rhythm condition or already take another omega-3. Orders to Canada leave the UK depot by tracked airmail (5-20 working days) or DHL courier (2-7 working days), and the Canadian storefront's shipping page says the buyer is responsible for any customs charges, duties or taxes (per performancelab.com, checked 2026-10-05). We saw only US-dollar prices ($49 one-time) when we checked.
Hero ingredients
- DHA540mg
- EPA270mg
Who it's for
- Vegan omega-3 from algal oil (life's OMEGA 60) rather than fish
- 990mg total omega-3 per serving, every amount on the label
- Softgels the vendor says are free of gelatin and carrageenan
Who should skip
- 540mg DHA is below the 900mg-1.2g a day used in the positive DHA memory trials
- Ratio wording is inconsistent: the product page mostly describes an 'optimal 2:1 EPA:DHA' ratio, but the label's 540mg DHA and 270mg EPA make it 2:1 DHA to EPA; the page also says one serving provides 900mg of EPA and DHA, while those two label rows add up to 810mg
- A general-health omega-3 rather than a nootropic; evidence for omega-3 and cognition in healthy adults is mixed

Ingredient quality
Number and quality of evidence-graded ingredients. Trademarked extracts and standardized actives raise this score.
Dosing vs. clinical evidence
How many ingredients meet their clinical-trial dose. Underdosing flagship actives is the biggest score deduction.
Formula transparency
Full disclosure of every ingredient at its exact dose. Proprietary blends are scored as opaque.
Value for money
Cost per month relative to per-serving clinical doses delivered. Cheaper products with underdoses score lower.
Brand trust
Brand reputation, third-party testing, refund track record, and Trustpilot signal across multiple years.
